The Classroom

Introduction to Mass Communication at San Antonio College, media literacy, course design, students, AI in learning and community journalism. Every week in Loftin 209 hands me something worth saying into a microphone.

Conversations in This Room

Teaching mass communication in 2026 means teaching people who publish every day. Students, faculty and working journalists come to the table to talk about what the classroom gets right, what the newsroom still needs, and where the two meet.

01

What Students Teach Me

The questions that arrive after a lecture, the projects that outgrow the assignment, and the habits a 2026 media student already has before the first class.

02

AI in the Classroom

Students draft with OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, and Google's Gemini, and the house rule holds: AI drafts. People decide. How a course teaches the judgment that stays with the person.

03

From Textbook to Campaign

A chapter on social media or online media becomes a real campaign plan by Friday. The in class projects that turn reading into published work.

04

Community Journalism

The student newspaper, the Journalism Club and the ethics that hold a campus newsroom together, with the people who run them.

05

Going to School in Two Directions

Teaching one program while studying in another: a graduate researcher's week between the lectern and the seminar table, and what each side borrows from the other.

Episodes in This Room

The first conversations in this room are being recorded now. Each one lands here with its player, show notes and transcript on release day.
