Teaching · Alamo Colleges District
The classroom is the room I keep coming back to.
Twelve years teaching in the Alamo Colleges District, and the throughline never changes. I teach how people make things, how media moves, and how the systems underneath either carry the work forward or quietly get in its way. The tools change every semester. The questions do not.
How I teach
I teach project first. A student should leave the term with something they made and can defend, not only something they read. That holds whether the course is composition, speech, technical writing, or the business of music.
When generative AI arrived in the writing classroom, I did not ban it. I built an assignment around it: students write and produce an original song with AI, then account for every choice they made and every line they kept. The point is judgment, not output. That is the literacy this decade actually rewards, and teaching it honestly is its own discipline.
I hold a Master Teacher designation from the Alamo Colleges District, and I build my courses to Quality Matters standards in Canvas, so the structure serves the student instead of the other way around.

Certifications
Designing the course, not only teaching it
Beyond my own classroom, I design curriculum and training for organizations, online and hybrid: course architecture, LMS builds, onboarding, and professional development, through Good Creative Media. The same instinct runs through both. A course is a system. Build it well and it keeps teaching when you are not in the room.
A short piece on bringing AI into the classroom honestly:
The teaching sits on research
In 2014 I co-authored a peer-reviewed article on participatory media and the McLuhan laws of media in Technoculture: An Online Journal of Technology in Society, with Deb Balzhiser and Caroline E. Jones. The classroom is where that thinking gets tested on real people making real things. Read the article.
Bring me into a classroom, a conference, or a curriculum.
Keynotes, guest lectures, workshops, and course design, each one shaped for the room in front of me.

The departments tell the range.
I have taught 18 courses across 7 departments. The list is not a trophy case. It is proof that I can move between media, writing, technology, business, and broadcast without losing the student.
